How to add a link to your Instagram bio (and make it clickable)
Where the link field is, why the one in your caption will never work, and what to put behind the link so the tap is worth something.

Instagram gives you exactly one place where a link works: the bio. A URL in a caption is just text. A URL in a comment is just text. People will type "link in bio" under a post for as long as Instagram exists, because the bio is the only door.
This is a short guide to that door: where the field is, what the five-link limit actually does, and what to put on the other side so the tap is worth something.
Where the link goes
On the phone app:
- Open your profile and tap Edit profile.
- Tap Links.
- Tap Add external link, paste the URL, and give it a short title if you want one.
- Tap Done, then Done again on the profile screen.
On a computer, go to your profile on instagram.com, click Edit profile, and you will find the same Links section there.
Since 2023 Instagram has allowed up to five links. Your profile shows the first one. The others sit behind a small "and 4 more" that opens a list. You can drag the links into a different order from the same Links screen.
Stories have their own link sticker. That is separate from the bio and disappears with the story, so it is useful for a day, not as your permanent link.
Why the link in your caption does not work
This is the most common "my link is broken" question, and nothing is broken. Instagram has never made links in captions or comments tappable. Visitors see the address, and the most determined of them copy it by hand. Everyone else scrolls on.
The fix is the two words everyone uses: put the link in your bio, and say "link in bio" in the caption. That is the whole trick.
One link or five?
Five sounds better than one. In practice, most people still use one link, and it is worth understanding why before you fill all five slots.
- Only the first link is visible. The rest are behind a tap that most visitors never make.
- Instagram tells you nothing about which links get tapped.
- Changing the order or the destination means editing your Instagram profile every time, from your phone.
- A bare link cannot show a price, a map, a code or a message button. It can only go somewhere.
So the usual approach is one link that opens a page you control, with everything on it. That page is what people mean by a "link in bio" page. Instagram's five slots are a fine backup, but the page is where the work happens.
What to put on the page behind the link
A good link page is short. The visitor came from a post, they are on a phone, and they will give you about one screen of attention. Some rules that hold up:
- Three to five links, not twelve. If you would not tap it yourself today, take it off.
- This week's thing first. The new video, the drop, the event. Move it down when it stops being new.
- A way to reach you. For most small businesses that is WhatsApp. For most creators it is email. One, not both.
- If you sell something, show it with a price. A card with a price gets more taps than a link that says "shop".
- If you have a place, put it on a map. Directions are the most useful tap a local business can offer.

Everything else is optional. Nobody arriving from an Instagram post wants to read an "About" essay.
Setting the page up on Cueful
It takes about five minutes.
- Claim your address at cueful.bio/yourname. The name you use on Instagram is usually the right one.
- Say what the page is for. Creator, shop, musician, freelancer. Setup fills in sensible starting links so you are editing, not staring at a blank form.
- Add your links. Drag them into order. Star one to feature it at the top.
- Publish, and copy the address.
- Back in Instagram: Edit profile → Links → Add external link, paste, done.

Type the address exactly. Instagram wants the full URL, including the https, with no spaces before or after it.
Checking that it works
Open your profile from another phone, or in a browser where you are logged out, and tap the link. It should open your page inside Instagram's browser. If it does, you are done.
While you are there, Cueful gives you a QR code for the same address. It is the same link, for the places where nobody can tap: a poster, a business card, a sticker on the counter.

Common problems
- "My link is not clickable." It is in a caption or a comment. Move it to the bio.
- "Only one of my links shows." That is how Instagram displays multiple links. The rest are behind "and N more".
- "The link goes to the old page." You edited the bio text, which is not a link. The link lives in the Links section.
- "Instagram says the link is invalid." Usually a missing https, a space, or a typo. Copy the address from your page rather than typing it.
- "It opens but the page is empty." You have not published yet, or the address has a typo. Open it in your own browser first.
The link is the easy part. What you put behind it is what decides whether a tap turns into a follower, a customer or a sale. Keep it short, keep the newest thing first, and change it more often than you change your bio.
